A Wondai farmer was left thinking all his Christmases had come at once after a $10 scratch-it ticket unveiled a $150,000 cash prize.
The South Burnett man purchased his $10 Jumbo Crosswords Instant Scratch-Its ticket at Wondai Newsagency on McKenzie Street.
“I usually get an Instant Scratch-Its ticket once or twice a week, but this time I got a lucky one,” he said.
“I took it home and scratched it. At first, I thought I had nine words and thought that was good. Then I kept looking and saw 10 words, which is better, and then I kept going and had 13 words.
“I had to get someone to double-check the ticket, just to make sure.”
The winner said the most he’d ever won on a ticket was $50.
“It will take the pressure off life a bit, but I’ll wait until the money’s in the bank before making any big decisions,” he said.
“It’s a good time of year to win. It’s made my Christmas.
“Rain and a win – too many good bits in one go but a great way to end the year.”
Wondai Newsagency owner John Robinson said a win like this gave everyone in town a boost.
“It’s wonderful. It’s part of why we do this job really – the excitement of the time and how a win can make a difference to a customer’s life,” Mr Robinson said.
“We’ve sold a couple of decent scratchie wins over the years, but it’s been a while since the last one.
“It’s good to see the rain and a win. It feels like we’re all winning at the moment.”
