South Burnett Saints Heritage Day and 10-year celebration

It’s a big day for AFL in the region, with the Saints clubs celebrating not just their heritage day but also their 10-year anniversary.

The men’s and women’s teams will be taking on the Toowoomba Tigers from midday Saturday, with the men running out in their old Bulldog guernsies.

There’ll be entertainment from Mr Q, awards, and raffles in the lead-up to the team of the decade being announced.

Head down to Lyle Vidler Oval if you’re keen to take part in the celebrations. A cover charge of $20 will get you in for unlimited food and drinks while they are available.

Kingaroy Friendship Markets

On the third Saturday of every month you can be sure to pick up a bargain or two at the Kingaroy Friendship Markets held at the Showgrounds.

The markets are open from 7am until noon and are jointly run by the Kingaroy Show Society.

They feature a great range of arts, crafts, fruit and garden stalls.

Yarraman Markets

If you’re looking for a day trip, head to Yarraman this Saturday morning to check out the Progress Association’s weekly market between 8am and 1pm.

Check out the dozens of stalls and car boot sellers on the corner of the D’Aguilar and New England Hwys, where the huge variety of goodies means you’re almost sure to find a bargain.

Moore Hall Markets

If you’re looking to go even further afield, the monthly Moore Hall Markets will be running from 6.30am to noon this Saturday.

The markets are held on the grounds near the Soldiers Hall off the D’Aguilar Hwy.

Parkruns

Looking for something more active? Pull on your running or walking shoes and get down to one of the many Parkruns in the region.

The runs are 5km timed runs around courses across the Burnett starting at 7am each Saturday, and the groups are free to join.

Runners and walkers just need to sign up on parkrun.com.au and bring the printed barcode to the event.

There are Parkruns at three locations in the region:

  • Nanango – Ros Gregor Trail, Tipperary Flat, next D’Aguilar Hwy
  • Wondai – Coronation Park
  • Proston – Railway Park

Blackbutt Country Markets

Make the drive out to0 Blackbutt for some market goodness, and use it as an excuse to sample the delicious pies at the Blackbutt Bakery.

The markets are run by the Blackbutt Lions and run on every third Sunday of the month from 7am to noon.

With plenty of local food, arts and craft, you’ll likely find something to take home.
