THE people who help make the South Burnett a great place to live have been recognised for their contribution.
The South Burnett recognised the efforts of the region's volunteers at the annual Australia Day awards in Blackbutt on Friday night.
"It is really clear to me that we share this area of the South Burnett with some very remarkable people and each one of you who was nominated has a story to tell," South Burnett mayor Keith Campbell said.
"Keep your eyes open because these people make our lives in the South Burnett so much greater, so much better and that is what represents being a true Australian.
"We are a lucky country but along with being lucky comes a lot of hard work, passion and dedication."
Scott Prendergast is the 2019 South Burnett Citizen of the Year.
He has been rewarded for his continued involvement in developing junior rugby league players and in the establishment of the Murgon Mustangs domestic violence awareness round.
The junior South Burnett citizen of the year was awarded to Anekah Hinchliff for her contribution to the community especially for providing Nanango State High School students with the mentoring and leadership event run through the nationally recognised Country to Canberra workshop.
