Mayor Brett Otto urges South Burnett community to ‘be vigilant’ and get the jab as the south east Qld Covid-19 Delta cluster grows

Mayor Brett Otto urges the South Burnett community to rally together and support each other during the latest COVID-19 escalation in South East Queensland.

As Queensland’s Delta cluster swells to 63 cases, South Burnett Regional Council Mayor Brett Otto has warned resident’s that now is not the time to get complacent, urging them to keep up-to-date with health advice and book in to get the jab.

“The escalation of the Delta variant across Brisbane is concerning to Council, as such we are monitoring closely with Queensland Health,” Cr Otto said.

“With more cases of the Delta variant appearing in recent days across Brisbane, this is not a time for complacency in our region. People of South Burnett, please be proactive and get your COVID-19 vaccination.

“The only way we will get on top of the virus and see life get back to normal is by following Queensland Health advice and through broad community vaccination. It is incumbent upon all of us to keep our communities safe.”

Councillor Otto said he’s in regular contact with Queensland Health, the Premier’s Office and Queensland Police to receive the most accurate and up to date information about the pandemic.

“Council is encouraging all residents to be vigilant during these uncertain times. It’s extremely important to follow the Queensland Health advice and instructions with regards to lockdown requirements, face masks and social distancing,” he said.

“Residents should be in contact with their GP about vaccination and if they experience any symptoms should get tested immediately.”

The Australian Government has provided a strong stream of supply for COVID-19 vaccines and Queensland Health has worked with practitioners to coordinate the roll out across regional communities.

Current clinics administering COVID-19 vaccinations in the South Burnett region are:

  • Bunya Pines Family Practice Kingaroy – AstraZeneca only
  • Taabinga Family Practice Kingaroy – AstraZeneca and Pfizer
  • Kingaroy Medical Centre Kingaroy – AstraZeneca and Pfizer
  • Wondai Medical Centre Wondai - AstraZeneca only
  • Nanango Medical Centre Nanango – AstraZeneca and Pfizer
  • Murgon Family Medical Practice Murgon – AstraZeneca only
  • Blackbutt Medical Centre Blackbutt - AstraZeneca only

Anyone leaving one of the following Local Government Areas after 1am on Saturday July 31 and entering South Burnett, whether they are returning residents or visitors, must comply with the Queensland Government lockdown requirements:

  • City of Brisbane
  • City of Gold Coast
  • City of Ipswich
  • Lockyer Valley Regional Council
  • Logan City
  • Moreton Bay Region
  • Noosa Shire Council
  • Redland City
  • Scenic Rim Regional Council
  • Somerset Regional Council
  • Sunshine Coast Regional Council
