HairDo4U’s Ebony Smith named South Burnett’s best hairdresser for 2021 as voted by our readers

The numbers are in and your number one hairdresser has been revealed. Buying her salon at just 18 years old, this Nanango hairdresser has built a loyal clientele through hard work and specialised skill.

Perfecting her art at a young age, Ebony Smith has earned a faithful string of regulars who trust her, and her alone, with their locks.

Born and raised in Nanango, Ms Smith followed her dream of becoming a hairdresser to Toowoomba, before returning six years ago to buy HairDo4U salon while she was still an apprentice.

While launching into her own business as a teenager was no easy feat, Ebony showed a great deal of strength and resilience as she built her brand.

“The first couple of years are really hard, because at just 18 years old it was tough finding my feet,” she said.

“I've had a lot of hurdles along the way and I’ve learnt to be strong. At the end of the day it’s my name, so I want to keep that good reputation.”

Ebony said she experienced a little scepticism at first due to her youth.

But it wasn’t long before her unique skills were noticed by the Nanango community as well as clients from well outside the region, including Brisbane and Toowoomba.

Proof that age doesn’t equal experience, Ebony said her interest in hairdressing was about as old as she is, and she recalls enjoying playing with her mum and her grandmother’s hair as a child.

Now all grown up and a haircare all-rounder, Ebony specialises in the tricky art of getting the perfect blonde, as well as hair extensions.

Voted best hairdresser in the South Burnett region, Ebony said it was amazing to see that her hard work has paid off and she appreciated the community’s support.

With a successful business already under her belt, Ebony said she’d eventually like to expand her brand.

“I have thought about it, but right now and we're comfortable where we’re at. But I would eventually like to,” she said.
