Friends and family are mourning the loss of beloved wife, mother and grandmother Jaras Brogan after she was tragically killed in a car crash near Mount Perry.

The much-loved New Moonta woman was travelling in a car along Gin Gin Mount Perry Road with her husband and grandson, when they rolled down an embankment on July 9.

Jaras died at the scene and her grandson Bryceson was flown to Queensland Children’s Hospital and placed in an induced coma.

Fionna Brogan said her mother was a different kind of character, who’d always welcome people into her home with a warm smile and open arms.

“She didn't care who you were or what you look like. She was just very understanding and open. I guess both my parents are like that,” Ms Brogan said.

“They would never ask for money. They wouldn't have asked for help. Mum was always quick to be the one to help.”

Ms Brogan said her mum grew up with nothing in Thailand and always wanted her children to enjoy the simplicity of life without worrying about money.

“She wanted us just to enjoy each day as it comes,” she said.

“Growing up we used to have weekly trips all over Cairns. Even when we didn't have money, they would always make sure that we were never left bored at home.

“She loved us and she always provided for us. She worked really hard.”

Ms Brogan said her mother was well-known for her incredible cooking, especially her ability to whip up any Thai cuisine at restaurant quality.

“She is well known for her cooking. I think every friend, every person, even if they‘ve only met her once, says the same,” she said.

“It was her passion – cooking and plants.”

When Ms Brogan was a child she recalls her mother owning her very own nursery in Cairns, Jaras Plant & Orchid Nursery.

“I used to remember her day and night, she’d be up way before the sun came up and would be looking after her plants. Even now when she was retired.”

When little Bryceson came along, Ms Brogan said her parents’ passions turned to him and they were devoted to “showering him in so much love”.

Ms Brogan said she was incredibly thankful for the years she had with her mother and knows she’ll see her again one day.

“Thank you for everything. Thank you for helping me with my son and thank you for being my mother, and always being there for us,” she said.

“We all love you so much.”
