How far would you go to try the best pie in Queensland?
For two Sunshine Coast men, the sky was the limit, flying a helicopter into a regional Queensland town just to sample the local bakery’s offerings.
Aaron and Dave Lawrence landed in a helicopter behind the Blackbutt Bakery on Friday, June 17, after a friend tipped them off to the bakery’s award-winning pies.
The scene caused a big stir in town, with locals coming out to see what was happening.
Both men described their Blackbutt pies as “awesome” before jumping back into their aircraft and heading home.
Blackbutt Bakery owner Roberta Anson said on facebook it was incredible to see the men’s dedication to trying the shop’s pies.
“Was an amazing sight seeing the helicopter circling then landing right in town just to come have some Blackbutt pies after being told by friends how good they were. So stoked,” she said.
The bakery is known around that state and indeed the nation for having some the best pies and slices anywhere.
The bakery was crowned the best in the state for pies in 2020 by NOVA radio, and regularly wins gold medals at the annual national pie awards.
Locals were quick to agree with the pair’s decision to come all the way to the South Burnett to try the pies.
“Worth any mode of transport to get there,” Michelle Taylor said.
“I don’t blame them, probably the best pies in Australia,” David Spence said.
“I’m going to drive from Sydney northern beaches in school holidays with my kids to get a pie and one of those hot chocolates,” Brooke Bloomfield also wrote.
