Police have revealed the car involved in a horror crash in South Burnett, which killed a 29-year-old Cherbourg man, was reported stolen.

According to Nanango officer-in-charge Sergeant Brett Smith, it’s believed the 2008 green-gold Holden Commodore was taken from a Nanango property on Friday morning before rolling several times on the Burnett Highway.

Police were called to the incident at Sandy Ridges, about one kilometre north of Broadwater Access Road, just before 7am on Friday.

The driver died at the scene.

Sergeant Smith said the owner, who was in the Brisbane area at the time, reported the car missing to Caboolture police on Saturday.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or saw the vehicle travelling on the highway this morning to contact them.

Anyone with relevant dashcam footage is also asked to contact police.

Investigations are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the crash and the reported theft.
