In a bid to create a salon that feels more like visiting a friend’s living room than a quick in-and-out appointment, Yarraman resident Morgan Clark is opening a new space focused on one-on-one care and a genuinely family-friendly vibe.

Ms Clark has been working in the beauty industry as a hairdresser for almost 10 years.

“It’s just something I’ve always really enjoyed doing,” she said.

“I’ve been cutting and colouring my own hair since I was big enough to find scissors.”

Ms Clark has spent the last decade honing her craft, from first starting a tafe course in South Australia, where she was originally from, to training apprentices in Brisbane and more recently working at a few different salons in Kingaroy.

She first moved to the small country town three years ago from North Brisbane.

The Country Curl will be a full service salon, something a little bit new for Yarraman.

Ms Clark plans to offer foils, colour, perms, blow dries, and even eyebrow and eyelash treatments.

As someone with “hair that is frizzy and curls when it wants to”, Ms Clark knows how hard it can be to tame difficult-to-manage hair, and she hopes to expand her expertise in this niche area and offer more specialised curly hair service in the future.

“I’ve had lots of people in the last couple of years, especially since I’ve moved out here and had a chance to talk to people, say that they can’t find someone that specialises in curly hair.”

She was motivated to start her own salon so she could have more control over the services she offered and the time she spent with each client.

“Hairdressers, we’re quite creative people,” she said.

“So I like the chance to be able to choose what services I’ll provide and kind of be able to spend a little bit more time with my clients.

“(At my own salon) I’ll be able to book out longer times for them so I can get more one-on-one with people.”

When she was planning her new business, Ms Clark thought about how she wanted her salon to work best for her and what kind of experiences she wanted her future customers to have.

She decided it was important for the salon to be a friendly and welcoming space, that allowed her to make one-on-one connections with her customers and the wider community.

“I hope it’s really relaxing,” she said.

“Sort of just a really friendly and down to earth (space), like you’ve just walked in and your friends are there and everyone’s just totally chill.”

Ms Clark said the public response had been great and people in the community had been “really welcoming” and excited to have access to a full service salon close to home.

The new shop will be located across the road from the IGA carpark, next-door to the laundromat on Margaret Street.

The salon will open on June 16 but bookings are available now.
