The popular travelling food market, Street Feast, will accept cash payments for entry at its upcoming Nanango event after facing significant backlash from the community when it announced the $2 entry fee would be card-only.
The Street Feast organisers had initially communicated their cashless policy on social media, prompting immediate and vocal discontent from residents.
“Not coming if you’re not taking cash,” Maria Bayley said.
Troy O’Brien echoed Ms Bayley’s frustration.
“If they don’t accept cash I cannot support this,” Mr O’Brien said.
Responding to the outcry, Street Feast posted an update on their Facebook page.
“We’ve heard you … loudly. We are bringing cash back at the gate to ALL our events. Please have correct change,” the statement read.
The reversal was immediately met with positive feedback from the community.
Stephen Campbell said he was “no longer boycotting” the event.
“If the community keeps up the good fight we will keep cash options open,” Mr Campbell said.
“We keep customer service with humans, not AI. Well done South Burnett.
Russel Bushes said it was a “big deal” that the organisers listened and asked people to support them.
“I know I’ll give it a look in again now,” Mr Bushes said.
“Please take cash to the event and any events, where possible. Cash is king,” he said.
The event, touted as Queensland’s largest travelling gourmet food market, promises a vibrant night at the Nanango Showground with a mix of food trucks, dessert stalls, boutique retail stalls, and live music.
For those with a sweet tooth, the dessert vendors include Vegan Hut’s plant-based doughnuts and Iced Tea Co’s refreshing traditional iced teas.
Japanese cuisine enthusiasts can look forward to Teppanyaki Noodles by YamatoUmi, where skilled chefs will craft dishes on-site.
Street Feast events are also dog-friendly, inviting attendees to bring their pets (on-leash) along for a night of food and fun.
Following Nanango, Street Feast will host another event in Kingaroy on June 28 at the Kingaroy Showground.
