Council confirms commitment to support small business with signing of special charter

The South Burnett Regional Council, alongside seven local businesses and community groups, have signed a special charter marking a commitment be mindful of small businesses when making important decisions for the local community.
Queensland Small Business Commissioner Maree Adshead said the signing of the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) initiative in the South Burnett was the most involved and committed she had witnessed yet.
“Signing the SBFC charter is a positive demonstration by the South Burnett Regional Council that it values its small business owners and the role they are being called upon to play in driving our state’s economic recovery,” Ms Adshead said.
“Not only are small businesses important to the economy of the region, they bring vibrancy and identity to the community.”
The Small Business Friendly Council initiative charter was signed by the Blackbutt District Community Organisation, Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce, Maidenwell Community Group, Murgon Business Development Association, Nanango Tourism and Development Association, Proston Round Table and Wondai Business Networking Group.
Regional Development portfolio holder Councillor Kirstie Schumacher said it is a priority for the council and the community to build an economic recovery plan to secure the region’s sustainable future.
“South Burnett business owners are resilient and hardworking members of our community,” Cr Schumacher said.
“Without their continual dedication and innovation, the South Burnett would not be the region it is today.
“By signing the charter for the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) initiative, Council is committing to securing their livelihoods, and providing the best quality of life for our residents.”
Mayor Brett Otto said it is important to support small businesses not just to create jobs and to advance the economy, but to ensure everyone in the South Burnett community has a purpose in life.
“South Burnett Regional Council takes its responsibilities in supporting our economy and our local business owners seriously,” Cr Otto said.
“By signing the charter for the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) initiative along with our local Business and Community Groups, the council is acting on these responsibilities.”
