FOOTBALL: The Barambah Bears women's side are the 2018 Football South Burnett premiers.

The Bears defeated the Nanango Panthers three goals to two in Kingaroy on Saturday.

It was the first premiership win personally for the girls in maroon who have been challenging the Panthers all season.

It was a tight contest between the teams and captain of the Bears, Elle Mollenhauer, couldn't be prouder of her team mates for scoring the win.

"I am very proud of all the girls. We worked very hard for this and I am just glad that we got it in the end because we knew we could do it, the crowd knew we could do it and we just had to do it and it feels great,” she said.

"There are three of us that have been playing together for eight years and it is the first grand final that we have won, so it is very exciting for us. We have had a few new ones come in last year and we have been playing very well as a team.”

Score were drawn at half time with a goal at the start of the second half putting the Bears on top.

"Just to get that first goal straight away in the second half made us positive again and think we were back in it. At half time I said it is the last game of the season girls we need to play as hard as we can and be the first to, a bit quicker and take shots just pumped them up,” Mollenhauer said.

The players had to contest with the windy conditions at Kingaroy's Tom Alford Oval.

"The wind in the first half we struggled with so I reckon that's why we were down then in the second half we had the wind with us so I think that definitely helped,” Mollenhauer said.

The Bears become stronger as a team this year and are looking forward to seeing what they can achieve in seasons to come.

"We know eachother so much better now and each persons style of playing so playing together all season helped us,” Mollenhauer said.

"At the start of the season we weren't that strong and towards the end of the season we really picked up our game and thought positive and knew we could do it.”

Despite the result coach of the Panthers, Jacqui Downie, couldn't have asked more of her players.

"I can't not be happy with the way we played. In my opinion we played the better soccer on the pitch,” she said.

"They (Barambah) took their opportunities and all credit to them they played good soccer and they scored more goals.

"It could have gone either way and that's how you want a grand final to be.”

The Nanango players have been playing together for a number of seasons and have dominated the Football South Burnett competition in recent years.

"Our girls have been such a team unit for years and it has not changed again this season,” Downie said.

"We have wanted to better our skills on the pitch and we have done that and we have come best mates for it.”
