We were flooded with entries for our Facebook reader poll in which we asked you to name the South Burnett’s best childcare worker. But there can only be one winner, and here she is:

BUDGET 2022: Winners and losers

For the South Burnett’s most loved childcare worker, there was only ever one career she wanted to be in – guiding the next generation.

Alison Ramke from Ally’s Family Day Care at Wondai has been voted by South Burnett Times readers as the community’s best childcare worker, with Ms Ramke shocked and excited by the honour.

Ms Ramke has worked in the childcare industry since leaving school, including spending several years at Kandy Kids Child Care before going out on her own in 2018 and setting up Ally’s Family Day Care.

Ms Ramke said the smaller group size was a major positive.

“Childcare was like 24 kids in a room and I thought four sounds much better,” she said.

“More one-on-one with the kids, and you get to know the kids better.”

It’s this small group size that Ms Ramke believes is the key to her success, and why her parents are so supportive of her.

“We’re very community-oriented, I take the kids to a lot of places,” she said.

“We always go to NAIDOC week, or under-8s Week and we attend a lot of playgroups.”

Ms Ramke also gets the kids involved in allsorts of fun activities, from playing with goo to cooking and gardening.

Having grown up in the South Burnett since she was four, Ms Ramke has the trust of many in the community and sees plenty of friends and fellow locals she grew up with bring their children through her daycare.

“I have a waiting list and I just keep adding kids to the bottom of it,” she said.

Ms Ramke said she hadn’t been able to have her own children and her job was the perfect one for her.

“I look after the kids and then hand them back. It’s good for me,” she said.

“It’s the way I get to spend time with and enjoy them, but then hand them back.”

She thanked everyone who voted for her and supported her throughout the years.
