A dozen South Burnett based community groups have been awarded thousands of dollars in grants to help deliver more local projects, upgrade facilities, purchase equipment, to support grassroots sport, and deliver vital services.
The Gambling Community Benefit Fund announced the recipients of Round 122 of funding on May 7, with 12 South Burnett organisations awarded.
Over $298,000 will be shared across the successful organisations, to support local projects, facilities, and community initiatives.
The GCBF is the largest one-off community grants program in Queensland, and distributes approximately $60 million each year to not-for-profit community groups.
More than 2000 organisations around the state submitted applications to receive up to $35,000 of funding, the largest number of applications the program has received in its 31 year history of operation.
Member for Nanango, Deb Frecklington, had welcomed the funding injection into the region and said the increased number of applicants shows how important this support is for local communities.
“This is fantastic news for the South Burnett. These grants provide a real boost to our hardworking community groups, clubs and volunteers who work tirelessly to support our region,” Mrs Frecklington said.
“The list of successful recipients in Round 122 highlights the incredible work being done at the local level, and how much of a difference this funding can make to community wellbeing and resilience.”
Mayor Kathy Duff said volunteers in local organisations are the champions of the community and this funding will give their valuable projects the boost they deserve.
“I am really pleased that our hardworking volunteers in these local community groups have received funding for their valuable projects,” she said.
“It is often difficult for local clubs to raise funds so this will give our local volunteers who are our community champions a real boost.”
The next round of funding will open on June 9 and close on July 18, and will be offering grants of up to $100,000 for major community projects.
