South Brisbane units: Residential development with 120m water wall approved

A SPECTACULAR new residential building that will feature a 120-metre water-wall has been given the green light by the Brisbane City Council in spite of strong objections from residents.

A NEW residential building that will feature a 120-metre water-wall has been given the green light by the Brisbane City Council.

The 33-storey development will be built on Hope St and Fish Lane at South Brisbane, and will include more than 200 residential units.

It will also include a 750-square-metre public park that will feature an outdoor cinema, amphitheatre, public art and a children’s play space.

City planning chairman Matthew Bourke said the building, designed by Koichi Takada Architects, was characterised by a 120-metre water-wall that would stretch from the roof top to the ground floor lobby.

“The striking water-wall will comprise of a series of single-storey water features, which will have the appearance of a cascading waterfall, down the front of the building,” Cr Bourke said.

“One of the features of the building supported by Council is the sky terrace, which provided recreation spaces for residents with a 50-m lap pool, gym, yoga room, change-rooms, theatre and dining area.”

Offices, retail shops and a number of cafes will be located on the ground floor of the development.

It comes after strong objections to the proposed development.

Residents have complained that the site exceeds its permitted height limit by 13 storeys, causes “unacceptable solar shadowing” and breaches the set back regulations.

There were also concerns about increased traffic and the width of the footpath in Fish Lane because of the increases pedestrian movement.
