Blink and you’ll miss it, but snow has fallen in Queensland this morning after frosty temperatures hit the state.
Snowflakes were captured on video falling among some sleet and rain falling near the Eukey Town Hall just south of Stanthorpe.
The snow comes as Brisbane shivered through another cold night and faced gusty winds of 40km/hr this morning – and it’s not over yet.
BOM Meteorologist Rosa Hoff said that Brisbane can expect temperatures to plummet to as low as 5 degrees tomorrow morning as the cold snap continues.
“It’s likely to be the coolest of this particular burst of cold weather with the minimum temperature dropping to around 5C in Brisbane,” she said.
“We’re likely to see widespread frost through the southern, eastern and central parts of Queensland.”
The winds are expected to drop out tomorrow morning, but the predicted 5C minimum is well below the July average minimum of 9.5C in Brisbane.
Thursday's prediction comes close to rivalling Brisbane’s record set in 2014 for the coldest day on record for 103 years – hitting a brisk 2.6C.
