Severe thunderstorms could hit southeast this afternoon, Gatton to fare the worst
Severe thunderstorms have been forecast for parts of the southeast this afternoon, with the chance of hail in some areas.

Potential thunderstorms are predicted to hit the southeast on Friday afternoon, with a chance of severe storms in the west.
With warm weather across the southeast hitting temperatures in the low 30s, Bureau of Meteorology’s Felin Hanniffy said storms could be brewing in the west.

“Today we do have a trough system out to the west, that system is coming across us, which is going to bring the chance of some afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the southeast, particularly in that inland area,” he said.
“We do have well above average temperatures today, with temperatures in the low 30s particularly across Gatton and the western suburbs, it’s Gatton really that could see the chance of a storm this afternoon.”
He said coastal areas under the sea breeze were unlikely to see any storms.
“Inland there is a chance of a storm this afternoon, there could be chances of a severe storm as well, it’s a low chance but not no chance, the risk is there.”
There is a 30 per cent chance of rainfall in Brisbane on Friday afternoon and a 20 per cent chance on the Gold and Sunshine Coast.
