Since July 2020, the state’s Public Trustee has reimbursed 2922 Queenslanders with more than $1.9 million in lost funds – including one single payment of $195,682.

That includes Queensland’s largest individual unclaimed sum: $759,551.50 owed to an individual in the 4006 postcode which was lodged with the Public Trustee late last year.

Acting Public Trustee of Queensland Samay Zhouand warned that many Queenslanders were unaware they were owed money, with the previous largest sum, $419,870, still unclaimed.

“People are both surprised and thrilled to find out they have money owing to them. I encourage all Queenslanders to find out if they are owed any money searching our unclaimed money register,” he said.

Public Trustee data revealed that residents of the Cairns City postcode 4870 were owed almost $1.9 million – the largest amount in the state.

The $1.86 million owed to residents in Brisbane’s 4001 postcode and the $1.83 million owed to Toowoomba’s 4350 postcode, were a close second and third.

The five highest amounts of unclaimed money include the aforementioned $759,551 from the Queensland Treasury Corporation; $419,870 from Ownit Conveyancing; $416,127 from Egeberg Deceased Estate; $254,390 from Wilson HTM Investment Group; and $249,325 from Engels Deceased Estate.
