THERE will be plenty of snags on offer at Bassett Park this Saturday, and not just the kind in bread.

Roma's fourth annual Dachshund Day will welcome pint-sized pooches from near and far to the event to enter their dear 'dachshies' in various races and competitions this Saturday.

Jessica Pearce will be entering her choc-tan pup Mia for the second year in a row, after initially being hesitant to join the "dachshund club”, she admits her love for the breed continues to grow.

"I think they just have such a quirky personality, they're all very different with so many colour types and coat types,” she said.

"There's so much in such a little package.

"They're lap dogs but they're also very independent.

"They were bred to be hunting dogs so they have some of those instincts.”

Jamie Mitchell welcomed Slinky into her home five months ago, and admits her life has been full of so much love ever since.

"Jess introduced me to her pup and I though 'oh, I might actually get one' and I got him from Townsville. My favourite thing is his personality, I love his big ears and his cute eyes,” she said.

"Jess also got me involved in Dachshund Day this year.”

Organiser Natalie Golder is excited for the fourth instalment in the event, which started in 2016 as a birthday party for family pup Audrey.

"I think it gets bigger

and better each year, we never know how many dogs and people to expect,” she said.

"This year we have prizes for first, second and third for every category so we hope a lot of kids have their chance to stand on the podium.

"It'll be a great day, you're just laughing the whole time.”

Dachshund Day is a free afternoon for the whole family to enjoy, with competitions including Running of the Wieners, most unusual coat, cheekiest, who travelled the farthest, fattest, longest, shortest legs, oldest, fastest eater and most obedient.
