CRICKET: Souths have claimed the Men's T20 title for 2018, beating the Leprechauns in the final on Saturday.

After losing to Souths last week, it was shaping up to be an epic final at Colts Oval as the Leprechauns were seeking revenge.

The luck of the Irish helped the Leprechauns off to a good start, winning the toss and choosing to bat before the 35 degree heat settled in.

However, Souths let the ball do the talking, bowling the Leprechauns out for 45.

Best with the bat for the Leprechauns was T. Gordon making 10 runs for the day.

Best with the ball for Souths was Dean Kennedy, taking 3/9 and Amos Roberts who took 2/5.

It was time for Souths to reply and reply they did, passing the total in the eighth over.

But the day did not end there.

With some good sportsmanship by the Leprechauns, the batsmen were allowed a bit more time at the crease with the game called at the 11th over.

Billy Coonan was stumped for 22 and Jack Just carried the bat, remaining not out on 49.

Best with the ball for the Leprechauns was Levi Kingston with 0/12 off three overs and David Boney with 0/18 off three overs.

As the day ended, it was time for the Leprechauns to hand over the Men's T20 title to Souths.

Souths have now claimed their second Men's T20 title.

Alas, as one season closes another one opens, with the Men's 40 over fixtures starting this weekend.

The season will start on Saturday at 4pm with Mitchell playing Souths, in Mitchell.

On Sunday, Injune will play the Leprechauns at 10am in Injune.

Wallumbilla will ease into the season, taking the first round off with a bye.
