BLUE skies were the background as avid clay shooters from around the region joined forces in the name of charity over the weekend.

The Roma Clay Target Club hosted a charity day, inviting local businesses to form teams and compete, all in the name of raising money for the Lions Club.

By the end of the day, more than $6300 had been raised by the gun club and donated to the club, with all money going towards drought relief.

More than 160 shooters in 33 teams participated in the action-packed day but, at the end, it was Roma Tyre and Battery that won the day.

Lions Club president Paul Hutchinson said the club aimed to support farmers while also giving back to local small businesses, with vouchers purchased from local stores and given to those struggling.

"You can't do enough for drought relief at the moment, and the people that are bringing in bales of hay from out of town are greatly appreciated.

"But small businesses are a part of this town and they have to survive too,” Mr Hutchinson said.

Membership chairman David Knowles said Saturday's shoot was the biggest that had been held in some years.

"The gun club hosts one of these days each year and we go with them, name a charity, and fund raise for them,” Mr Knowles said.

"This year was big, I think because it was for such a good cause, everyone came out.

"Everyone realises how bad things are with this drought, and it's a fun way to do something good.”
