A Roma man who punched his friend in the head before being physically restrained by police has appeared in court for his bizarre and violent offending.

Tyron John Lemon pleaded guilty in Roma Magistrates Court to public nuisance.

Police prosecutor Mathew Donnelly said on May 23 at 10.50pm police responded to reports of male who had been assaulted.

The court was told police found the defendant “heavily intoxicated and extremely agitated” and he admitted to police he had been in a physical altercation with a male across the road.

When police spoke with the victim male, he said the defendant punched him in the head but did not wish to make an assault complaint.

During this time Lemon began hurling abuse at the victim male calling him a ‘dog c–t’ and saying “I’ll f–king take out your kneecaps c–t.”

“Police asked him to move away from the fence line, however he continued to yell before pulling his shirt off and dancing towards the fence,” Mr Donnelly said.

“Police then had to physically restrain the defendant before placing him in the watch house and releasing him on bail.”

Mr Donnelly said it seemed to be a case where “alcohol impaired his judgement” and recommended that a fine would suffice.

Defence lawyer Laurie Parker said his client was at his friend’s place and grew aggravated and regrets his actions.

“He was trying to leave the premises his friend was at, he was heavily intoxicated at the time,” Mr Parker said.

Deputy chief magistrate Stephen Courtney acknowledged there had been a nearly three year gap in between offending, with Lemon last before the court for similar behaviour in July 2020.

“You’ve been a pest around town for a few decades, thankfully for you and the town it seems to be slowing down,” Mr Courtney said.

Lemon was fined $200 referred to SPER and a conviction was recorded.
