A couple who who committed seven drug-related offences between them over the course of five months across three regional towns have appeared in Roma Magistrates Court.
Troy Michael Cook pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving, two counts of disqualified driving and one count of possessing cannabis and utensils associated with an illegal drug.
Acacia Rose Glen pleaded guilty to two counts of drug driving.
Police prosecutions said Cook was pulled over by police on three separate occasions in Caloundra, Mitchell and Kingaroy in September and October last year.
On the first instance in Caloundra, police discovered Cook was not the holder of a current driver’s licence, after it expired in 2004, and also had cannabis present in his saliva, the court was told.
Cook admitted to police he had “smoked pot” the day before and had a “couple of joints”.
On the second instance in Mitchell, police intercepted the same vehicle after being alerted to it being linked to a licence disqualification.
And on the third instance in Kingaroy, police intercepted the same vehicle for alcohol and drug testing which saw Cook test positive for cannabis.
When police began searching his vehicle, Cook handed them a “bong and cone piece and scissors” as well as 10g of cannabis which was all seized by police.
Defence lawyer Trevor May said his client doesn’t want to go back to jail and had gone as far as selling his car to remove his temptation to drive.
Mr May said Cook he had to pick up his girlfriend from hospital for the first instance and was driving to work for the others.
Magistrates Shane Elliott said he would give Cook one last opportunity.
“If you continue to drive a motor vehicle without a licence you’ll end up in jail,” he said.
“If you continue to show contempt for the laws of Queensland, you’ll go to jail.”
Cook’s girlfriend Acacia Rose Glen later appeared in court for her own drug-related charges.
Police prosecutions said in October 2022 Glen was caught drug driving in Kingaroy where she told police “she smokes cannabis everyday”.
Further in January 2023 in the Roma McDonald’s carpark, police caught Glen drug driving with Cook sitting in the passenger seat despite initially denying she had consumed any illicit drugs within the past two weeks.
Cook was sentenced to a nine month probation order and disqualified from driving for a total of six months.
Glen was handed a $750 fine for both drug driving offences and disqualified from driving for six months.
