Police are appealing to the community for assistance after an assault at a junior footy carnival in St George.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said that initial investigations indicated about 2.20pm on June 27 an altercation occurred, and a 15-year-old boy sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The assault took place at a junior rugby league carnival that was being held at Rowden Park.
“Police are appealing to witnesses, particularly anyone who filmed the incident on their phone, to come forward,” the spokesperson said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the teenager was taken to hospital by family after the assault.
Officer in charge of St George police station, Senior Sergeant Curtis Jope, said investigations into the incident were ongoing, as police work to get to the bottom of what happened.
Sergeant Jope said two people were injured during the altercation, including a 15-year-old was left with a broken collarbone after the off-field incident.
“A 46-year-old man also sustained injuries during the altercation,” he said.
He said police have a fair idea of what has happened, but there have been conflicting reports of the events, which is why police are appealing for any available footage from the community.
“We’ve got some statements lined up, and we’ve taken some statements,” Mr Jope said.
Queensland Rugby League confirmed they are aware of the incident.
A QRL spokesman said the incident was now under investigation and urged the rugby league community to share any information they have in relation to the incident with QRL or Queensland Police Service.
