From two brother banned from every bar in town over a nightclub brawl, to a mother warned by a magistrate she was on “the verge of killing someone” with her violent behaviour, here’s seven nights out in the southwest that went horribly wrong.

A young St George mother who a magistrates says is “on the verge of killing someone” has been warned she faces jail time and losing custody of her baby if she doesn’t change her violent ways.

Jodi Renelle Murphy, 22, found herself before Magistrate Tracy Mossop on June 15 after she punched two people in the head several times at a local pub.

Police prosecutor Heather Whiting told the court at 9.15pm on May 15, St George Police were called to an altercation between a group of patrons.

“While a witness tried to separate people, the defendant has come from the beer garden and struck a bystander in the head,” Sergeant Whiting said.

“She then punched another person in the head, and then gone around a witness and struck the other person in the head multiple times.

“As witnesses continued trying to separate people, the defendant continued to yell.”

Murphy pleaded guilty in St George Magistrates Court to public nuisance within a licenced premises.

She was sentenced to three months jail but released her on immediate parole.

Misplaced family loyalty, starting fights at the pub, and resisting arrest – tensions ran at an all-time high at the Roma Commonwealth Hotel after Kelvin Shane Whyman drank too much alcohol and caused a scene.

At the Roma Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 2, Whyman pleaded guilty to committing public nuisance within a licensed venue, obstructing police while adversely affected, and refused entry to licensed premises.

The court heard police were called to a disturbance at the pub at 11pm on Wednesday, April 28.

Upon their arrival the 19-year-old threw his shirt off and yelled at officers, “f—k off you c—ts”.

Whyman was fined $1000 and ordered to complete 100 hours’ community service.

Kewa Corrina Ryan has left a former classmate bruised and battered after she smiled at her, a court has heard.

The 18-year-old Roma woman faced Roma Magistrates Court on Tuesday for the charge of assaults occasioning bodily harm.

The court heard on July 11, Ryan unlawfully assaulted a victim, a former school friend, at a Wright Street address.

Police prosecutor sergeant Heather Whiting said Ryan and the victim had a history of confrontations in the past.

Ryan was slapped with 12 months probation and no conviction was recorded.

Two brothers involved in an alcohol-fuelled street fight outside a Roma bar have been banned from all pubs in town.

Matthew Waites, 24, pleaded guilty to one charge of affray in public place while adversely affected by intoxicating substance, and younger brother Desmond Waites, 20, pleaded guilty to one charge of commit public nuisance in the vicinity of a licensed premises, in the Roma Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

The court heard, at 3.15am November 16, 2019, the pair left The Zone nightclub on Charles St, where the they tried to engage in a fight with another partygoer, before security moved them on.

Despite the direction from security, the brothers continued to be aggressive with other patrons.

Police Prosecutor Jodie Tahana said Matthew went to punch another man, and Desmond got in to another altercation, punching his victim with enough force that he hit the ground and was knocked unconscious.

When police, security and bystanders stepped in to stop Desmond, Matthew pushed a third man in to the fight.

For his involvement in the incident, Desmond was issued with a 12 month banning order from all licensed premises in Roma, and issued with a $900 fine.

No conviction was recorded for either of the brothers.

A Roma security guard was left covered bitemarks and bruises after an unprovoked attack by Myanna Rose Lake at a local pub.

She came before the Roma Magistrates Court on assault and public nuisance charges.

The court heard Lake assaulted a security guard at the Commonwealth Hotel while intoxicated and had also hurled abuse at police in a separate incident at a party.

She was slapped with two years probation, 150 hours of community service and a banning order for 6 months and a $1000 restitution fine for the security guard‘s injuries.

Lake‘s conviction was not recorded.
