Seeing his pets on Instagram and sending a friend request to his ex-girlfriend has ended with a Roma man appearing in court.
The young father, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was fined for contravening his domestic violence order after he was ordered not to make any contact or attempt to contact his ex-girlfriend.
Solicitor Laurie Parker said his client was scrolling through the social media page and saw his pets and sent the request to his ex.
“I’ve told him he cannot do that, it’s part of his order,” Mr Parker said.
The man is currently serving an 18-month probation order after fronting the Roma Magistrates Court last year for attacking his partner with a kitchen utensil.
The court heard in July last year the father punched his partner with a clenched fist causing her nose to bleed before grabbing the item from the kitchen and whacking her on the hand.
Police prosecutor Heather Whiting said it was the woman’s workplace who reported the matter to police after they were concerned for her welfare.
In the Roma Magistrates Court this week the man was fined $150 for contacting his ex-partner.
“It’s important you comply with that order,” Magistrate Peter Saggers said.
No conviction was recorded.
