A Roma man charged with serious sex offences including the indecent treatment of children and two counts of rape has been granted a request to amend his bail so he could move to Miles.

Roma Magistrates Court heard the man, who cannot be named, requested his bail be amended to allow him to move an hour and a half away.

Initially the prosecution opposed the request saying they were only notified of the planned move just minutes before the court appearance last month.

This week solicitor Trevor May from Ferrier and Co told the court the man’s Legal Aid funding had been approved and they were just waiting to see who would be assigned to the matter.

He said police have passed on the brief of evidence and sought an adjournment to the next court sittings.

Police prosecutor Pepe Gangemi said after making inquiries into the new address, there were no objections to varying the man’s bail conditions.

The magistrate told the man, who was surrounded by family members in the back of the courtroom, that he was permitted to reside at the new address in Miles but most still report to police.

His matter was adjourned until the end of this month.
