A 17-year-old boy fronted Roma Children‘s Court charged with 10 offences, including allegedly stealing close to $100,000 worth of jewellery from a Toowoomba home.

Roma police allege the boy also wrote off a stolen Nissan vehicle on the outskirts of Wallumbilla on the Warrego Highway.

Officer-in-charge Duane Frank said it was fortunate the incident didn’t end with someone losing their life.

“He allegedly left the road, crashed the car, and out of sheer luck it didn’t end in a fatality,” he said.

The boy fronted court on Monday and was remanded in custody.

He has been charged with two counts of aggravated burglary, two counts of unlawful driving of a motor vehicle, three counts of unlicensed driving, and one count each of fraud, driving without due care or attention and wilful damage.

Sergeant Frank said between July to August the boy allegedly stole a Toyota Landcruiser and Mercedes from Roma homes, was involved in stealing nearly $100,000 worth of jewellery in Toowoomba and used a stolen credit card to purchase items in Roma.

He also allegedly damaged police property while in the watch-house.

He will front court again next Monday.
