The matter of a Kawana Waters woman who was allegedly caught hundreds of kilometres from home in a car with an empty tank, empty bottles of wine and a blown out tyre has been heard in court for the first time.

Melissa Margaret Fleming was charged with being in charge of a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, after she was allegedly found on the side of the Warrego Highway in her car, with empty wine bottles, an empty fuel tank, a blown out tyre, and a breath alcohol concentration allegedly five times the legal limit.

Police were called to an incident on the Warrego Highway 10km east of Roma at 4am on February 12, where Ms Fleming was allegedly sitting in the driver’s seat of a silver Toyota wagon.

Police allege Ms Fleming had driven from the Sunshine Coast to Roma. The rear right tyre blew out at some point on the drive, but Ms Fleming allegedly did not stop until her fuel tank ran empty.

Police further allege that after Ms Fleming returned a positive roadside breath test, she provided a staggering reading of 0.265 breath alcohol concentration at Roma police station.

The matter was mentioned for the first time in Roma Magistrates Court on Tuesday, March 5.

Magistrate Michael Wood approved the transfer of the matter to the Sunshine Coast.

Ms Fleming is now set to appear in Caloundra Magistrates Court on March 14.
