Jordan Cook-Slater unlawfully entered a property and hooned around, narrowly colliding with another driver multiple times

A repeat offender shouldn’t have been on the roads when he unlawfully entered a property and drunkenly hooned around, forcing another driver to slam on its brakes multiple times.

Just a month after he wrote off his car while three times the legal limit, a young Injune man unlawfully entered a property and almost collided with another driver multiple times.

In the early hours of December 6, 2020, Jordan Robert Cook-Slater was spotted by two people hunting for pigs on a private property.

The Roma Magistrates Court heard the owners of the property were away and no one was allowed on the property except for the two hunters.

“The (hunters) tried to go near (Cook-Slater’s) vehicle and noticed it was a Toyota Landcruiser but it had no operating rear or braking lights,” police prosecutor Barry Stevens told the court.

“They attempted to gain the attention of the occupants but were unsuccessful.

“They observed the driver (Cook-Slater) turn on his roo lights so it blinded the driver and this was captured on CCTV mobile phone footage.”

Sergeant Stevens said in an attempt to speak with 19-year-old Cook-Slater, the hunters were run off the road three times and narrowly avoided multiple collisions.

“The way the defendant was driving his vehicle, the driver had to slam on his brakes to avoid a collisions, the brakes slammed so hard the dogs fell off the truck,” he said.

The drivers eventually observed Cook-Slater and notified police.

Sergeant Stevens said the 19-year-old told police he was at home with his mother, however she denied that allegation.

It was only a month earlier, when Cook-Slater was fined $1500 and disqualified from driving for 12 months after he blew 0.29 and crashed his car into two parked cars in Injune.

Sergeant Stevens said Cook-Slater shouldn’t have been driving in the first place and one more drink driving offence would likely land him in jail.

Solicitor Laurie Parker said his client didn’t have a clear recollection of the event after drinking too much alcohol.

Magistrate Peter Saggers said Cook-Slater should be fortunate that he was not charged with drink driving as well.

“If you continue to drive in that way, you will go to jail and then be released with a Grade 8 education and not much else.”

Cook-Slater pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a vehicle, break and enter and failing to appear.

He was fined $2000 and disqualified from driving for 12 months.

No convictions were recorded.
