Danielle Maree Brittain caught stealing from Woolworths, driving unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured in Roma

Police intercepted a woman for driving unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured vehicle, then realised she was wanted for a theft offence.

Roma Police got a bargain after they intercepted a Wallumbilla woman for driving unregistered, then realised she was wanted for questioning over a Woolworths theft.

When officers intercepted Danielle Maree Brittain with her two kids in the car, she said “you are going to love me today because I have no licence or registration”.

Police checks revealed the car was unregistered and uninsured.

Police prosecutor Barry Stevens told the Roma Magistrates Court the mother was wanted for questioning after CCTV footage showed her stealing a number of grocery items from Woolworths.

“She told police money had been tight since her partner went away,” sergeant Stevens said.

Solicitor Laurie Parker said he explained to his client that if she can’t afford things, she simply cannot steal them.

“I’ve told her she needs to seek assistance from elsewhere,” he said.

He said his client had various “street level” type offences on her criminal history with magistrate Peter Saggers noting it was her third stealing offence.

Mr Saggers warned the mother that he explained to her last time that she would be off the road for two years if she got caught diving during her disqualification.

“If you continue to disobey court orders, the court can’t do anything but punish you severely,” he said.

Brittain pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified by court order, driving an unregistered and uninsured car and stealing.

She was fined $1000 and was disqualified from driving for two years.
