Braydon James Anthony Manns pleads guilty in Roma Magistrates Court to public nuisance, possessing drugs, utensils

A drug raid followed by a lover’s tiff has sent a Roma man to court after a bizarre set of circumstances saw him punch a concrete driveway and ask police to lock him up.

Should Cannabis be legal in Australia?

A Roma man whose home was raided by police has landed in court for a string of charges stemming from officers uncovering drugs and utensils in his home.

Braydon James Anthony Manns, 20, pleaded guilty in Roma Magistrates Court to public nuisance and possessing a dangerous drug and drug utensils.

Police prosecutor Mathew Donnelly said police executed a search warrant at a Roma address where they uncovered clip seal bags of cannabis.

The court was told they also found a glass water pipe, manual grinder and ice pipe all used in connection with a dangerous drug.

Later, police were called to attend the same address following reports of a man and woman arguing.

Mr Donnelly said as officers approached they heard Manns yelling, “I’m not going back to jail”.

Police soon located the woman witness before finding the defendant with another man.

Manns began acting “belligerent” towards the witness in front of police and called her a “sl-t”.

He then punched the concrete driveway before saying “you need to lock me up because I can’t control myself”.

However, when police informed Manns he was going to be arrested for public nuisance, he resisted and yelled “no don’t f–king arrest me”.

“Police used open hand tactics to restrain him,” Mr Donnelly said.

“It was concerning he approached the witness in front of police”.

Defence lawyer Laurie Parker said his client was intoxicated at the time of the offending and fuelled by jealousy.

“He thought the other male present was making a pass on his partner,” Mr Parker said.

“From my interactions with him, he’s a very well spoken and polite young man.”

Magistrate Shane Elliott handed him a combined $850 fine for all three offences.

A conviction was recorded.
