When a magistrate heard why Austin Peter Wells decided to get behind the wheel with drugs in his system, he laughed.
Wells pleaded guilty to drug driving in the Roma Magistrates Court on October 29.
Police prosecutor Ellysha Geddes told the court the man was intercepted by police at 9.30am on August 27 when he was found with methamphetamine in his system.
Sergeant Geddes said he was pulled over in a white Mercedes Benz hatch on Duke St Roma, and admitted to police that he had used meth two weeks earlier.
“He stated that he was going to pick up some gear from a friend’s house,” Sergeant Geddes said.
Magistrate Aaron Simpson interrupted the prosecutor to sarcastically add that was a “unfortunate” choice of words by Mr Wells.
With no relevant criminal history, Mr Simpson fined Wells $600, and was disqualified from driving for one month.
A conviction was recorded.
