BUDDING photographers of southwest Queensland have a chance to flex their creative muscle and showcase their best work in this year's QCWA State Amateur Photography Competition.

Running again in 2019, branches from across the region will take submissions as they reopen for the year.

In the last competition, two photographers from StGeorge took out second placings in their categories and QCWA western division president Barbara Macmillan looks forward to seeing what entrants will submit this year.

"I will be interested to see how many local branches are going to have a competition,” she said.

"I know they usually have one in Wallumbilla and in Mitchell and we will also have one in St George, Dirranbandi and possibly Bollon.

"All of our branches, we hope, will run an individual competition in their community.”

Going to the local group is only step one, with the best from each town to be sent up the ladder of the Queensland Country Women's Association, Mrs Macmillan said.

"The winners from the branches come to judging at division level and then they go to the southern region conference for judging there,” she said.

"There are four tiers, so the photos then go from the southern meeting to the state conference.”

Running for about a decade, the photography competition was still evolving and the women behind it always looked to include a variety of categories, competition chair Jenny Whitsed said.

"We take all kinds of photographs except drones at the moment,” Mrs Whitsed said.

"We did have a query about that but none of us had thought about it before, so we are going to look at it for next year.

"This year we've introduced a new category called Creative and Manipulative and it is the only one where photos can be digitally enhanced by a computer editing process, which will be interesting.”

Closing date for nominations vary between western division branches.
