The boil water alert in Surat has finally been lifted, more than a month after it was first put in place.
Maranoa Regional Council were forced to put out the alert on December 19, after a plant failure caused the water quality to become cloudy and not meet Queensland Health mandated code.
Throughout the time the alert was in force, residents were told that the tap water was not safe for drinking, preparing food with, making baby formula, brushing teeth, making ice or bathing infants.
A council spokesman previously said the fault was caused after a power point blew in a storm, causing the flocculant regulator to fail.
This meant that microscopic clay particles were left in the water supply, causing the chlorine to not function the way it should.
The council spokesman also said this problem was resolved quickly, but it was a tedious task to replace the murky water in the reservoir.
However, at that time it was not indicated that the process would take almost a month.
It has now been confirmed that Surat’s drinking water supply has met Queensland Health standards, and the boil water alert has been lifted.
