RUGBY LEAGUE: Mitchell's biggest banquet saw the best and brightest of the football community come together to finally mark the end of the season.

It's been a big one for the Magpies, who are still riding the wave of excitement from the club's recent centenary and reunion, and reflecting on a long journey to the grand final for the U18 side.

About 140 Magpies players, family members and supporters turned out for the end-of-season banquet.

Always a tight-knit club, former players and lifelong members were among those to congratulate the Magpies team at large.

Club member Henry Byrnes expressed his appreciation, reminding everyone that the club was so much more than a football team.

"I would just like to congratulate all the players, coaches, managers and everyone else who contributed to the 2018 season for the Magpies.

"It doesn't matter what you did, every little thing helps make the club what it is.”

It was a successful season for the Magpies, and arguably one of the better ones in recent years, Byrnes said.

"It was encouraging to see the roll-up of players this year - for the first time in a very long time we managed to field two senior sides without having to rely on players backing up.

"The Boss, JB [John Birkett] put in a tremendous effort, along with the helpers who put everything together for the year, with special mention to the 100-year reunion.

"To the players, you can look forward next year to building on this years efforts, you all should be proud,” Byrnes said.
