BRODIE Hurley was crowned 2020 ALPA Queensland Young Auctioneer in Silverdale on Thursday.
Up against nine other finalists, Mr Hurley took home the Queensland Country Life Shield, the Don Steel AM Cup, products from Tenterfield Saddler, $1000 cash and automatic entry into the 2021 ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition National Final held at the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
“Well thank you very much everyone, I’d just to thank Rod Turner, Andrew Hold, Colby Ead and everyone else who supported me through the way,” Mr Hurley said.
“And Peter Hays for putting up his hand for everyone to come here, I know it’s trying times, but he put his hand up.”
This year was the 31st year of the competition and it’s usually held at the Brisbane Exhibition Grounds.
ALPA CEO Peter Baldwin said that “the very thesis of the competition lies in its focus on young members of our profession underpinning the future of the industry. It provides a unique opportunity to celebrate the pride and passion these agents have for their industry, their recognition of past contributors to agency and their dedication towards developing their rare talent, in an ethical and businesslike way.”
“To be honest I was very surprised, I didn’t expect to win,” Mr Hurley said.
“You just go into the competition to do you best, but you never expect to win.”
Mr Hurley was a finalist last year.
“I suppose in comparison to last year, everyone had a go at the Ekka and with it being my first time it was quite scary,” he said.
“This time it was more realistic, just felt comfortable in this environment this year and just showed off what we do week in, week out.”
Mr Hurley said he will be having a “couple” of beers to celebrate with family and friends.
Justin Rohde from Nutrien Livestock in Rockhampton was runner up.
