Injune recognises bigwigs this weekend at once-a-year-event

Former presidents and Injune riding identities will be honoured at the annual rodeo this weekend in town.

Rodeo: Former presidents and Injune riding identities Earnest and son Craig Brazier, both known as Meggs Brazier, will be honoured at the annual rodeo this weekend in town.

The Injune Rodeo Association decided as a way of showing respect to the family for their contribution to the community, this year the event would be known as Meggs Brazier Memorial Injune Rodeo.

Committee member and announcer Jack Johnson said Meggs Brazier always had a lot to do with the community.

"Earnest, Meggs senior, was a previous president of the Injune Rodeo Association and so was his son Craig, who unfortunately passed away not long ago,” he said.

"The Brazier family are a big part of the Injune rodeo community and they've always been great people and people you'd have a laugh with.”

The October 12 event begins with a pre- performance at noon with main events from 2pm.

Mr Johnson said he'd been involved as long as he could remember, with his first rodeo at the age of four or five.

"My dad is a contract musterer and I've always been around cattle and horses all my life, and campdrafting and rodeos are just part of that,” he said.

Mr Johnson said a feature bull at the event was Acid Rain, who won 2017 PBR bull of the night in Brisbane.

Acid Rain will take on some of the best riders, with Mr Johnson saying a 90-point bull ride is possible.

"We've got some big-name cowboys turning up this year and our rodeo clowns are the best in the business and keeping everyone safe with Darryl Chong and his partner in the ring Dean Berry,” he said.

Events on the day include the bull ride, saddle ride, bareback ride, rope and tie, team roping, barrel race, breakaway roping, novice bull ride, bullock ride and a range of under-18 events, an under-15s junior steer ride and a seven to under-12 poddy ride.

Mr Johnson said he hoped to see more people through the gates this year.

The Injune Rodeo is held at the Injune Rodeo and Cutting Ground, Carnarvon Highway. Free camping is available, however there are limited stalls and no powered sites.

Admission is $10 for adults, children $5 and under fives are free. Gates open from noon.
