Huge slice of funding hoped to start environmental projects

CLEAN and green projects have a chance to take off in the Maranoa, with $150,000 of federal grant money available to local groups.

Funding for environmental projects, through the Communities Environment Program, was announced last week by Maranoa MP David Littleproud, who encouraged Maranoa residents to apply.

"What I like most about CEP grants is that funds filter down to support projects undertaken by grassroots community organisations like Rotary, Lions clubs, Indigenous organisations, schools, and conservation groups to help rollout community environment programs,” Mr Littleproud said.

"I encourage community groups to apply for funding which could be used to restore riverbanks and waterways, protect native animals, reduce waste and litter, and support local parks and community areas.

"We are committed to harnessing local communities and local knowledge to protect our environment because they know what decisions need to be made to help our local community.”

As many as 20 local projects can be funded through the CEP scheme, which is being delivered to every electorate in Australia.

Groups with an interest in local conservation can learn more about the CEP through Mr Littleproud's electorate office.
