This Easter, Roma Woolworths and the Children’s Hospital Foundation have banded together to raise funds to improve healthcare for sick rural kids.

Since the Easter Appeal’s inception back in 2019, local Woolworths customers have raised $16,409 for sick and injured Roma kids.

As a result, Roma Hospital has installed a special paediatric room with diversional toys and a calming wall mural to distract children from stressful procedures and the anxieties of going to hospital.

Out of the 1000 Woolworths stores across Australia, the Roma store has made a huge impact and currently ranks first in Queensland and third nationally for money raised.

Woolworths Roma store manager Tony Marris credits his staff, and the generosity of the local community, for this huge feat.

“I’m continually blown away by the community and how much they dig deep and help support locals,” Mr Marris said.

“We only trade six days and we’re up against seven day traders, and they’ve got that extra day so the team have done really well.

“I think because the money is going to the Roma Hospital it really resonates with the community.

“When I see the team talking with customers at the front end, you can see it has touched a number of people in our community who have had to use that service.

“It’s not just the Easter Appeal we do really well in, but all of the fundraising we have contributed to over the years. For me it shows the generosity of the community.”

Roma Woolworths is no stranger to success, with the store coming first last year for the Royal Flying Doctors appeal.

“I think it’s all about giving a little good to someone everyday and doing all we can to support one another,” he said.

“I think the Easter campaign is a really good example of how a little good can have a huge impact on thousands of sick kids across our communities.”

Woolworths customers will be able to purchase a $2 egg-shaped wall token or donate to the Children’s Hospital Foundation to benefit the Roma Hospital at Woolworths Roma until April 11, 2023.
