ONE day after news broke that Regional Express would shut down all Queensland flights, the company has reversed the decision.
The airline announced this morning that it has been saved by Queensland's Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR).
In a statement, Regional Express said services are running as normal today, but there will be further changes as the airline cuts a deal with the government.
"Following a last minute intervention from the TMR, Regional Express (Rex) has agreed to reverse its decision to suspend
services from 1 April 2020," the statement read.
"Rex will resume full services on Wednesday 1 April 2020 and will introduce a reduced
schedule from 2 April 2020 on all five TMR regulated routes.
"A final agreement has not yet been reached with TMR on the reduced schedule, however
Rex will run the reduced schedule in good faith until 8 April 2020, after which the total
suspension of all Rex's services in Queensland may still proceed."
Regional Express runs five Regulated Public Transport services to regional communities on behalf of the state government, connecting 25 destinations statewide.
In southwest Queensland, Rex operates two major routes, connecting Charleville, Quilpie, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah and St George to Brisbane.
