A bold plan to completely transform the Roma skate park and youth precinct is one step closer to reality after Maranoa Regional Council selected a contractor for the first stage of the project.
At the final Maranoa Regional Council Meeting of 2022, World Trail was chosen as the construction contractor to deliver the project on the site opposite the old hospital in Roma.
Stage 1 of construction, which involves installing a new pump track, is expected to commence in late March or early April 2023.
According to the original timeline, Stage 1 of the project was expected to begin construction mid-2022.
“Stage 1 will include the pump tracks, landscaping, footpaths and where funding permits will include shade shelters,” a council spokesperson said.
“The pump tracks include two separate pump tracks, a junior track and an intermediate/advanced track.”
Weather permitting, project works are anticipated to be completed over a three to four month construction window, with the project scheduled for opening in mid-2023.
Mayor Tyson Golder said the news was the culmination of many people coming together with the vision to help transform the site into something the community would be able to enjoy and be proud of.
“Council is looking forward to partnering with World Trail on this exciting project,” he said.
“World Trail have a wealth of experience in the design, planning and construction of pump tracks having delivered hundreds of projects in over 20 countries.
“The finished pump track will be a great asset to the Maranoa region.”
The project is funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland Program in association with Maranoa Regional Council.
