'Knight Saber' named for strength, light

NAMED for strength and light, the tower crane on Roma's skyline is now officially called Knight Saber after a Year 5 pupil coined a winning moniker.

Sydney Bentley, from StJohn's Roma, came up with the name after her mum suggested she enter the project's name the crane competition.

"I named it Knight Saber because it's strong like a knight, lifting heavy things, and saber because it glows at night,” she said.

Jim McGowan, South West Hospital and Health Services chairman, said they received more than 70 entries from 30 schools across the southwest.

"There was a group of people to decide on the winner and the consensus was that this was the best and most thoughtful name.”

Watpac project manager Brett Rosentha said while biased by his love of Star Wars, he was also impressed by Sydney's colouring-in entry, which will hang on the crane for the build's duration.

"Knight Saber will be kept busy over the coming months as the building takes form,” he said.
