Fancy yourself an expert at the tee? Now’s your chance to head out west and test your skills on a unique Queensland course – and win a trip to Sin City in the process.

Avid golfers are being urged to dust off their clubs and head out west for chance to win some incredible prizes, while doing their bit to help flood affected communities.

Guests in attendance at August’s Quilpie Open Golf Weekend will go in the running for up to $36,000 in prizemoney and a trip to Las Vegas, all while having a fun hit out on The Quilpie Golf Club’s unique sand green.

Club president Bruce Paulsen said the event was preparing for an influx of up to 200 golfers.

“It's pretty unusual for a club our size and where we are based to put on an event like this, we have been upping the ante every year for the past five years,” he said.

“This year we are offering a trip to Vegas, Queenstown or Hamilton Island as a lucky door prize, and purely by playing a game of golf you go into the draw to win a trip for four accommodation included.

“On the Social Saturday we will have the Las Vegas Scramble where we will select the team of four to send off on a grand holiday and Sunday is the Quilpie open for the more experienced players which is already attracting a big field, we are expecting a bumper crowd across the two days.

“At night we will have meals included and a big auction with some pretty special things up for grabs.”

Mr Paulsen said aside from a fun few days of golf, the event would bring much needed tourism to a region which had been ravaged by floods.

He encouraged people to visit the region and spend their money with local businesses and accommodation providers.

“Quilpie wasn’t as affected during the flooding as we were high and dry but it had a devastating effect on all the shires around us, it has been a tough time for everyone and we want to lift the spirits and have a great weekend of fun,” he said.

“If we bring 200 people together it is certainly going to be a great time, I think it is amazing for the region and it will attract people from all over.”
