Ambassador role a chance to be a voice for the industry

Desire to break down barriers and share knowledge of farming industry inspires first rural ambassador.

IINSPIRED by an opportunity to showcase what her industry represents, Sarah Packer joined the race to be Roma's first Rural Ambassador in the hopes it would give her a voice to share her passion.

"I think it's very important we let people know, and voice all the good things we do,” Ms Packer told The Western Star after she was crowned.

"I want to break down barriers that are out there. For me personally on a local level, people's perception of what we actually do and how we do care for animals.

"It's not a money making scheme. We take care with how we conduct our business.”

Ms Packer has an impressive portfolio behind her, having been the first female to make it to the finals at the Royal Queensland Show for the young auctioneers competition.

"I did that twice. I'm too old to enter it again, but it meant a lot to me to be the first female to do that.”

Born and bred on farming land, Ms Packer has been involved with her family's farming industry her whole life, buying into a cattle operation a few years ago.

She is also a livestock agent and auctioneer for Top X, working with Cyril Close.

"My favourite thing about my job is getting to work in an industry I love. Every day is different, I get to interact with a very wide variety of people,” she said.

Next for Ms Packer is the sub-chambers competition in Cunnamulla next month, where she will compete for the title of southwest Rural Ambassador, which will send her to the Ekka in August if she wins.

"I'm very proud to be the first person in Roma to achieve this,” she said.
