TEN high priority infrastructure projects have been slated for state funding totalling $1.38million, with a major chunk of the money, provided by the Works for Queensland program, going towards Roma's pressing water issues.

A delivery main from Bore 17 to the Currey St reservoir will receive $600,000 of that grant, making it the largest individual spend, followed by the project to increase the Maranoa's firefighting capacity, which will cost $200,000.

Construction of footpaths, cemetery upgrades and local roads around the Maranoa, and roofing the pool amenities at Surat have also been deemed high priority projects.

Deputy Mayor Jan Chambers told The Western Star spreading this funding across the Maranoa was still an important consideration for councillors.

"There were a significant number of projects to choose from, and what was prioritised was what there was a genuine need for across the region,” Cr Chambers said.

"And that was why the majority of councillors voted this way, was to spread the funding across the region and not just in Roma.

"But we did consider the water in Roma, and there is still $680,000 going to water projects in Roma, and it is important that we do fund the smaller projects too.

"There is genuine need for that across the region, and some of these have been part of budgets but haven't made it over several years, so it will be great to see those projects completed.”

The Works for Queensland funding will be delivered over three years.

The 10 projects to be funded are:

  • Ivan St footpath upgrade, Surat - $22,000
  • Roma touch fields internal road - $150,000
  • Wall of remembrance, Yuleba - $25,000
  • Wall of remembrance, Injune - $25,000
  • New toilet block, Mitchell cemetery - $35,000
  • Pool amenities roof, Surat - $40,000
  • Retirement Village to Third Ave footpath, Injune - $168,000
  • Regional water project, fire fighting capacity - $200,000
  • Roma water project, delivery main from bore 17 to Currey St resivoir and meter connections - $680,000
