Gracemere residents may be able to grab a Whopper burger and a grande cappuccino after Zarraffa’s Coffee submitted plans to Rockhampton Regional Council to build a drive-thru neighbouring the soon-to-be-built Hungry Jack’s.
The vacant site at 6 Lawrie Street sold to a development company in December 2022 for $979,000.
The Zarraffa’s Coffee development is to occupy the northern side of the block, with Hungry Jack’s on the other side.
A development application was submitted to Rockhampton Regional Council before Christmas by a company connected to Zarraffa’s Coffee founder and managing director Kenton Campbell, and Jack Ray of development Ray Group.
The plans are consistent with existing Zarraffa stores and are for a single storey building to be 4.28m and 64 sqm in gross floor area.
The building will face John Street, where access will be from and have a drive-thru, outdoor seating and an order window for pedestrians.
There will be six on-site car parks and room for 11 cars to queue in the drive-thru.
It is proposed to be open from 4am to 10pm.
Zarraffa’s Coffee was founded in 1996 in the Gold Coast and drive-thrus were launched in 2009.
There are now more than 70 locations across Queensland, Western Australia and New South Wales.
Rockhampton first had a Zarraffa’s in 2009 when it opened where Stellarossa (near Kmart) now is in Stockland Rockhampton.
The owners closed that store in September 2016, stating Stockland had increased their rent and it was no longer viable.
The Musgrave Street drive-thru was opened in May the following year.
The development application for the Gracemere Zarraffa’s Coffee states the new location would be open in 2024.
Hungry Jack’s told this publication in September 2023 it hoped to have the Gracemere store open in mid-2024.
