Young boy sustains lower limb crush injuries after serious Alton Downs accident

RACQ Capricorn Rescue was called to the rural property on Sunday night for a young boy who was crushed by a heavy pipe.

A male toddler was crushed by a heavy pipe on his family farm just outside of Rockhampton on Sunday night, causing his lower limb crush injuries.

Paramedics were called to the private residence just after 6pm to the serious accident at Alton Downs, 10 miles northwest of the city.

It was reported a trailer had collapsed and a heavy pipe he was near rolled over his lower body, pinning him for just over a minute before it was removed

The young boy sustained lower limb crush injuries to his hips and lower back and significant leg injuries.

He and his mother were flown to Rockhampton Base Hospital for further scans and treatment.

RACQ Capricorn Rescue also paid a visit to Great Keppel Island earlier on Sunday.

A woman in her 60s was walking along the track to Shelving Beach when she rolled her ankle.

Due to the steep and rocky location of the woman, she could not be walked out.

The rescue crew officer and on-board doctor were winched to the patient to stabilise her for transport.

She was stretcher winched from the area, along with the flight crew, and taken to Rockhampton Base Hospital for further scans and treatment.
