That came on the back of their thrilling 20-all draw with Rockhampton Brothers in the season opener the previous week.

Halfback Jayde Tooth, centre Jace O’Neill and wingers Jack Connolly and Author Valentine also scored four-pointers for Yeppoon.

Prop Sam Kitchin was Norths’ sole try scorer.

Seagulls coach Neil Beckett, who assumed the A-grade coaching duties this year, was happy for his team to get their first win of the season but conceded it was probably not their best performance.

He said while he couldn’t fault the effort, the team’s completion rate and standard of footy was not where he wanted it to be.

“We can play a lot better than that but it’s early days,” he said.

“It’s a new side, a new coach, a lot of new faces so we’re just building slowly into the season.”

Beckett praised his forwards, led by second rower Mitch Biddulph who was outstanding on the left edge.

He was ably supported by skipper and lock Sam Holzheimer, second rower Sam Stibbards and Jake Jackson who brought some real energy off the bench.

Holzheimer said the day game “zapped the energy”, especially in the first half.

He said it was better in the second half, given the Seagulls had the majority of the ball, but 17 errors did not help their cause.

Holzheimer said the scoreboard was probably not a fair reflection of what was, at times, a very physical contest.

Teams will have the Easter weekend off before returning for Round 3 fixtures on April 23 and 24.
