William Close, Gracemere, house destroyed by suspicious fire on Monday night

A Gracemere home has been declared a crime scene and police are investigating after a suspicious fire overnight.

Gracemere house fire:

Neighbours of a home in Gracemere called emergency services to report a house fire on William Close on Monday evening, which has since been deemed suspicious.

Fire crews attended the scene just after 6.30pm and the home was engulfed in flames upon their arrival.

A total of six crews attended and the main fire was out by 7.20pm, with the last crews leaving at 9pm.

Ambulances were on standby however no one required treatment.

Neighbour Chad Stokes had just been mowing the lawn only an hour beforehand and was out in the backyard when he heard some glass smashing.

“I went around the side the lounge room was fully alight, the flames were coming out of the lounge room and the wife called triple zero,” he said.

“I freaked out a little bit because the smoke was just starting to hit the front of our place... i panicked and got all of the kids to shut the windows.

Police investigating the incident in partnership with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services are treating the blaze as suspicious.

Mr Stokes said this was concerning.

“Especially in such a small little street, a cul-de-sac, it can be a quite scary, when you look down the road there is kids everywhere,” he said.

Police are appealing for any witnesses with CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident.
